About the Author
Children’s author Sara H. Fowler knew from an early age that she would one day be a storyteller. As she became immersed in the world of picture books after having her own children, she was inspired by their imaginations which, in turn, led to story ideas. In particular, “castle of knots” was a term her young daughter coined when describing an especially tangled bedhead, with her mother—the knight—freeing the princess from her snarls, paving the way for her newly released picture book, Castle of Knots.

Sara enjoys using fantasy tropes to explain reality to children. In blending everyday experiences, such as the morning routine of hair wrangling, with fantastical elements, she hopes to foster a love of imagination in young children that stays with them long after the book is closed. And for parents, her goal is to bring a lightness to daily dilemmas that can be stressful and frustrating.

A majority of Sara’s life has been dedicated in various ways to supporting children, parents, and reading. As a secondary ELA teacher for seven years, she often used picture books and children’s poetry to teach literary concepts to high schoolers, including extended metaphor, allusion, and symbolism—figures of speech later prevalent in her own picture book. She recently ended her two year tenure as the president of a local MOMS Club (Moms Offering Moms Support), a role which has her supporting stay-at-home parents, organizing guest speakers on parent and family-related issues, and participating in community service including fundraising for children facing serious medical challenges.

When she isn’t writing inventive stories for families to enjoy together, Sara likes traveling, reading, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and spending time with her family. She lives with her husband and their two children, a five-year-old daughter and one-year-old son, along with their dog, Duchess, in Georgia.

After all, since welcoming a new baby princess, the Queen has slept at odd hours, refused to leave her lair, started breathing fire, and hoarded the baby like treasure. With the help of the King, Sir Charles learns that this is part of the magic of queens and that one day she will return to her old self.

Designed to help families navigate Postpartum Mood Disorders, this upcoming book hopes to help older siblings make sense of the changes their mothers are facing after having a baby.

A beautiful young princess is trapped within a castle of knots, a mighty fortress covered in brambles, tangled weeds, and underbrush, hidden to the outside world around her. Legend has it that the fortress is impenetrable and has destroyed many swords (sometimes called brushes) as their mighty wielders attempted to undo the knotted tangles. Enter a valiant knight— otherwise known as mom—who bravely crosses the Valley of Dollies and over the Laundry Lake (referred by some as a bedroom), who takes on the impossible task of freeing the princess. Though it will not be an easy mission, the knight is committed to victory so that the princess can return to rule the realm of the Dollies…and get to school on time.
